A Panchayat is a body of elected representatives of the people to carry out the administrative affairs of Panchayat Raj institutions.For a Grama Panchayat, it is the main body that implements the decisions of the Grama Sabha and conducts the day-to-day administration. The main components of the Panchayat are: President: She is the head of the Panchayat. She presides over the meetings and supervises the overall activities of the Panchayat.Vice President: Assumes the duties of the President in her absence. Ward Members: Representatives elected from each ward of the Panchayat. Standing Committees: Formed to facilitate the decision-making of the Panchayat, for matters such as finance, development, welfare, health, education etc.
